Laws Whiskey with Chad Wilkes, part 2 the Ryes!

From our Whiskey Wine and Wildlife #whiskeyventure we met Chad from Laws Whiskey House and we convinced him to hang with us and bring some bottles. That he did! We get to learn more about laws, drink whiskey and have a good time, such a good time that here is a part1 and part 2. Laws is all about no shortcuts, they only make whiskey out there in Denver, Colorado. No In part 2 we get into the Ryes! Like Chad says, all their grains come from Colorado so the rye comes from the San Luis Valley. Unlike others it’s a 100% rye with 50% malted and 50% raw. Right off the nose it is different from any other rye whiskey out there. Then we move on the the award winning bonded rye, simply delicious. We also learn that Laws does not have just one master distiller, whoever is on the floor that day is the master distiller, what other distillery does that? Chad says they have wizards and mad scientists working back there and we agree! Lastly Chad breaks out the casks, a true representation of what they do. They definitely bring the heat but so good. This is where a cube or two comes in to play. Did we mention a giveaway? Huge thanks to Chad for coming down and letting us drink all of Laws whiskey and we even get our very own Whiskey and a Hammock bottle! Watch the review, let us know what you think.

Laws Whiskey with Chad Wilkes, part 1

From our Whiskey Wine and Wildlife #whiskeyventure we met Chad from Laws Whiskey House and we convinced him to hang with us and bring some bottles. That he did! We get to learn more about laws, drink whiskey and have a good time, such a good time that here is a part1 and part 2. Laws is all about no shortcuts, they only make whiskey out there in Denver, Colorado. No gin, no vodka, only whiskey. That is saying something. As Chad says, they are full ass, they don’t half ass anything! They are seed to glass, all of the grains they use is sourced from in their state, again no shortcuts. This gives Laws a unique characteristic, so what you’re getting is distinctly Colorado whiskey. No sourcing here ladies and gents. Plus, Chad has a bottle of their Centennial Wheat, not a wheated bourbon, it’s a 100% wheat whiskey, definitely different! Nothing to compare it to. Watch the video to hear about Origins X and a super limited 8 year bonded that will be coming out soon.

Maple Old Fashioned with Piggyback and Bacon!

When we did our Whistlepig review with Chris Helmly he brought up his twist on a Old Fashioned and instead of the sugar cube he used Whistlepig Maple Syrup. I had to take it one step further and candy some thick cut bacon with brown sugar and the same Whistlepig Maple Syrup. Plus, I added a couple dashes of bitters and a flaming orange peel, first time and I lit it on FIRE!

Whistlepig 15yr, 18yr and Boss Hog VIII

Our good friend Chris Helmly is back! This time with Whistlepig and we doing a Primo Tasting going right for the big boys! We start out with the 18yr double malt, malted rye and pinch of malted barley. Then move on to the 15yr 100% rye aged in Vermont oak, what a difference! Chris then brings out a surprise and slaps the Boss Hog VIII on the table and we get to indulge in the best that Whistle Pig has to offer. Beautiful bottles and the attention to detail is amazing. Every Boss Hog has an individually designed topper and this pig on top comes with a machete to salute Lapu Lapu because this bad boy is finished in Philippino Rum casks for a totally unique flavor!
