Metallica makes a Whiskey and it’s called… Blackened

Crank up the volume and bang your head. Metallica has made their own whiskey with the help of master distiller Dave Pickerll. What do you get when you pair an award winning band with a master distiller…. you get BLACKENED. For those of you who don’t know, Dave Pickerell is widely known for his tenure at Maker’s Mark and made a name for himself at Whistle Pig. So why whiskey you ask, well as they tell it in the beginning they had no money to drink anything other than whitle-label beer and vodka. It wasn’t until they moved to L.A. to make ….And Justice for All album and the Black album that they were more exposed to whiskey and Jack Daniel’s. Whiskey is something they graduated to.

FORGED BY SOUND

What this means is during finishing the barrels are sonically enhanced by playing music causing it move and interact with the wood. The movement of he whiskey and the amount of interaction depends on the song being played. The variation creates a slight nuance from one batch to the next. How does it taste? Lars says “the taste is light, it’s assertive, it feels modern. It’s I guess, warm. I like mine chilled with a big ice cube.” Dave says to his palate it’s a “rich, full bodied whiskey with notes of dried fruit because of the brandy finish.” Believe it or not there is actually 6 different playlists for 6 different slight variations.

Game of Thrones Scotch

Fans of “Game of Thrones” may have to wait until sometime in 2019 to see the final season of the wildly popular HBO fantasy series. But, in the meantime, they can drown their sorrows on some scotch whiskies.

The limited edition lineup is inspired by the Seven Kingdoms of Westeros, where the saga takes place, and the prominent families in the TV series.

Liquor giant Diageo has a special Johnnie Walker Blended Scotch Whisky called The White Walker by Johnnie Walker (out Monday, $36) and a collection of single malt scotches, coming in November.

The White Walker, a blend from two single malt scotches from Cardhu and Clynelish distilleries in northern Scotland, is meant to be served cold. When put in a freezer, the iconic 750-milliliter bottle’s white and blue thermochromic ink will glow, a nod to the phosphorescent radiance emitted by the eyes of the show’s villainous white walkers.Z
